Current Announcements

*Please help us to welcome our newest members Rajesh, T’shome, Cesar, Osaro, Christian, Kelly & Smyrne! We look forward to supporting them as they develop and strengthen their public speaking and leadership skills!

*We are now holding in-person/hybrid meetings at the Southwest Regional Library in the first floor Everglades Room.  We are offering online access with the same Zoom connection.  Please let us know if you have IT/hybrid meeting expertise and could assist with the weekly hybrid pre-meeting set-up.     

Winter Club Officer Training will be held online for 50 minutes on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. It will help the club to earn Pearl Award, the Diamond Award and the President’s Distinguished Award.  Please pre-register at bit.ly/Jan29COT. Club members who are interested in serving in a club officer role in the future may also attend.

*We held our Table Topics, and Evaluations Contests on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. Congratulations to Karen-Eileen for winning 1st place and Ernesto for winning 2nd place in both contests.  T’shome placed third in the Table Topics Contest.  Since we only have Karen-Eilleen Gordon as a Contestant for International Speech, we will send Karen-Eileen to the Area Contest without holding a contest.  Club contests lead to Area Contests that lead to Division Contests that lead to District Contests. The international Speech Contest also leads to Regional Contests and the World Championship of Public Speaking! Area 14 Speech Contests will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 9 a.m. Please pre-register at bit.ly/area14contest.   

*Early-bird registration for the annual District 47 Spring Conference, scheduled for April 21 to 23, 2023, is in progress now until January 20, 2023. The early-bird price is $225 for 3 days or $170 for Saturday only, a $25 discount from the regular price of $245 for 3 days or $195 for Saturday only. *Our club needs to complete 2 to 3 more DCP educational goals to qualify for Toastmasters Int’l’s Presidents Distinguished Club Award &  District 47’s Diamond Award.  We need various members to complete three more Pathways Level 1s, one more Pathways Level 2 and one more Pathways Level 3 by March 31, 2023.  If you are currently working on a Pathways Level 1, 2 or 3, please volunteer to complete your remaining speeches for your Pathways Level at least monthly during our weekly meetings and during our Saturday speech marathons before March 31, 2023. Please schedule your monthly speeches in advance using the Multiple Role Planner on the club website after signing in with username and password or text it in the Whatsapp group chat or directly to me.   

Our club officers selected Jacelyn as our 2022-2023 Shooting Star Award winner!  Jacelyn joined the club in March 2022 and quickly volunteered to serve as VP of Membership role and has done an outstanding job in her role an earned several Best Table Topics and Best Evaluator ribbons. A Shooting Star Award winner is a new member who joined between January 1 and December 31, 2022, completes 2 Pathways levels, attends TLI training and demonstrates leadership skills. If no new member meets all criteria, the new member who comes closest is selected. A winner will also be selected at the Area, Division and District levels.

Our club officers also selected Alejandro as our 2022-2023 DTM Super Nova winner! A DTM SuperNova is a DTM who has completed 2 Pathways levels between July 1 and December 31, attended TLI training, participated in club contests as a contestant or functionary, demonstrated leadership skills and assists in the District.  A winner will be selected at the Area, Division and District levels.  Alejandro is our VP of Education, notably negotiated our return to in-person/hybrid meetings at the Southwest Regional Library, planned and hosted our holiday party,  and planned and hosted our hybrid speech contests.

*If you have served one year as a Club Officer and would like to serve as a Club Coach for at least 6 months and help a club to reach 20 members in addition to achieving Distinguished club status,  you can be exempted from an additional Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) requirement.   

Since the fiscal year began on July 1, 2022, the Club has earned Toastmasters International’s Smedley Award for adding 5 new members during the 2 months ended September 30, 2022, District 47’s Garnet Award for completing its Club Success Plan and a Moment of Truth club evaluation by September 30, 2022, and District 47’s Sapphire Award for completing 5 Distinguished Club Program (DCP) goals by December 31, 2022. The Club also expects to earn Toastmasters International’s highest President’s Distinguished Club Award by completing 9 to 10 Distinguished Club Program (DCP) goals, District 47’s Pearl Award by having all 7 club officers trained twice during the fiscal year and is trying to qualify for District 47’s highest Diamond Club Award by completing approximately 9 criteria relating to club excellence.   

Do you know any adults or teenagers who may be interested in being introduced to public speaking skills for  4 to 8 weeks?  Our club would like to hold a Youth Leadership (YLP) Program for 10-20 teenagers or a Speechcraft Program for 5 to 10 adults for either 4 weeks for 2 hours each or 8 weeks for one hour each starting in early February 2023.   If you would like to serve as a Coordinator of a Youth Leadership Program or Speechcraft towards earning the prestigious Distinguished Toastmasters (DTM) credential and helping our club to earn the Diamond Club award, please let me know.  It must be completed by approximately March 31, 2023 which means it should begin by February 1 or March 1 at the latest.

Congratulations to Arlene, Harold, Sean and Torah for earning Triple Crown Award pins by completing 3 Pathways Levels in the 2021-2022 year. They will receive Triple Crown pins at the 2021-2022 Hall of Fame Award Ceremony that will take place in the Fall of 2022 or Winter of 2023.

*Congratulations to Torah for earning a Pathways Proficiency Award by completing 5 Pathways Levels in the first 6 months of the 2021-2022 year. She received a Pathways Proficiency pin in May 2022.

 *If you would like to present an Educational Tip of the Day at the beginning of our meeting for 1 minute, please send a brief summary of your tip about public speaking, communication or leadership to the VP of Education in advance to ensure that it doesn’t conflict with Toastmasters International techniques. Please plan to explain and /or demonstrate your tip during the 1-minute presentation.  

*Due to lower demand for speaking slots, we are reducing our speech marathons.   Instead of our monthly speech marathons held during the last week of the month, we will have regular meetings until further notice.   In addition, our Saturday speech marathons will be held every other month until further notice.      

*  We held our Annual Elections for our 7 elected club officer positions (President, VP of Education, VP of Membership, VP of Public Relations, Treasurer, Secretary & Sargeant At Arms) on Wednesday May 11, 2022 for the 2022-2023 year that begins on July 1!  Our new club officers for the next year are:

*For the second year in a row, our club earned the prestigious Golden Gavel Club Award for club excellence from District 47 in April 2022! We will receive a beautiful plaque!

The club earned the Smedley membership building Award for adding 5 new members during August and September 2022. The club also earned the Garnet Award for completing its Club Success Plan and a Moment of Truth Evaluation by September 30, 2022. The club earned the Sapphire Award by completing 5 Distinguished Club Program (DCP) goals by December 31, 2022. We are on track to earn the President’s Distinguished award by completing 9 or 10 DCP goals and the 7 Officers Trained incentive by June 30 2023. We are still qualifying to earn the highest Diamond Award in the District for club excellence by March 31, 2023.

*During the prior 2021-2022 fiscal year, we earned the Talk Up Toastmasters Award, the President’s Distinguished Club Award, the DCP Pathblazer’s Award, the Golden Flame President’s Award, the 100% Officers Trained Incentive and the Open House Incentive.Tada  We will receive a $25 gift certificate to the TI shop for the President’s Distinguished Award.   We will receive a Talk Up Toastmasters ribbon for our club banner and a 10% expiring discount to the TI shop for the Talk Up Toastmasters Award.   We will receive a Pathways Achievement Tracker for the DCP Pathblazer’s Award.   We will earn a plaque/trophy and receive special recognition at the Annual Spring Conference for the Golden Flame Award. We will receive a $25 gift certificate to the TI Shop for the 100% Officers Trained incentive.  We received a $14.99 incentive for holding an Open House in February 2022.

 *To earn the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) credential, you must serve 12 months as a Club Officer, serve 1 year as a District Officer, complete 2 paths in Pathways (approx 30 speeches), serve as a Club Mentor or Club Coach*,  serve as a Club Sponsor or conduct a Youth Leadership Program or a Speechcraft Program and complete a DTM Project.  You do not have to complete your 2 speech paths before starting on your Club Officer, District Officer, YLP/Speechcraft/Club Sponsor/Club Coach/Club Mentor roles.  

*Please remember that the old Level 1 in all paths in Pathways selected before November 2021 requires 4 speeches and a speech evaluation although there are only 3 projects because the second project of Level 1, Evaluation and Feedback, requires 2 speeches and a speech evaluation.     

*Pathways Level 1,  for all new paths selected in November 2021 or later, has changed.  As a result, there will be 4 projects requiring 5 speeches and a speech evaluation in the new Level 1 instead of 3 projects requiring 4 speeches and a speech evaluation,  The Icebreaker project and Evaluation & Feedback project will remain.  A Vocal Variety & Body Language project and a Writing a Speech with Purpose Project will replace the Researching and Presenting Project.  However, the Researching and Presenting Project will be added to Level 3 as an Elective. 

*Please review available Member Awards and Incentives on our . If you complete 3 levels in your path within the current fiscal year, you will earn a Triple Crown Award.  

*Please help us to make the transition to online speech and role reservations on this club website by responding to the emailed invitation to create your password, reserving roles and speeches for several meetings at the same time, saving the website in your Favorites or Bookmarks and using it regularly.          

DTM Awards

*Alejandro, our club’s Sponsor/Founder, is the first member of the club to earn the prestigious Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) Award in June 2020! He participated in the District 47 DTM Walk/ceremony in May 2021. DTM award requirements must be completed by March 31 in order to participate in the DTM Walk at the annual Spring District 47 Conference at the end of April/beginning of May!

Karen-Eileen placed 2nd in the online District 47 Evaluations Contest during the online, annual 2022 District 47 Spring Conference in April 2022!

*Alejandro placed 2nd in the online District 47 Table Topics Contest during the online, annual 2021 District 47 Spring Conference in April 2021! Prior to that, he placed 1st in Division A’s Table Topics Contest in March 2021, 1st in the Area Table Topics Contest in February 2021, and 1st in our club’s Table Topics Contest in January 2021.

The Shooting Star Award is given to a new member who embraced the Toastmasters International program within her first 12 months by completing 5 speeches, attending TLI Training, competing as a contestant and serving as a functionary in 3 speech contests within her first 12 months of membership at the club, Area, Division and District level.

*Torah was given the honor to serve as District 47’s Contest Master for the International Speech Contest in April 2022, and Division A’s and Division F’s speech Contests in March 2022! She also served as Area 14’s Contest Master, Division A’s Contest Master, Division F’s Contest Master and District 47’s Contest Master for the Winter Speech Contests in February, March and April 2021! She also served as Contest Master for Area 14’s and Division A’s Fall Speech Contests in October and November 2021!

Club Awards

*Our club earned the Talk Up Toastmasters Club Award for adding 5 new members between February 1 and March 31, 2021 and February 1 and March 31, 2022. As a result, the club will receive a Talk up Toastmasters award ribbon for our club banner and a 10% discount certificate to the Toastmasters International (TI) shop.

Our club completed the maximum of 10 goals in the Distinguished Club Program (DCP) and earned the President’s Distinguished Club Award three years in a row (2019-2020, 2020-2021 and 2021-2022).  The club will receive a President’s Distinguished Award ribbon for our club banner and a $25 gift certificate to use at the Toastmasters Int’l (TI) shop.

 The Club also received the prestigious Golden Gavel Club Award two years in a row that was announced during the annual District 47 Spring Conference (April 2021 and April 2022).   

The Club earned the President’s Distinguished Club Award for 2019-2020, 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 and received $25 gift certificates to use in the Toastmasters International (TI) Shop.

*The club also earned several incentives during 2020-2021 for completing 5 Distinguished Club Program (DCP) goals by December 31, Timely Renewals and for having all 7 club officers trained in both semi-annual Club Officer trainings.  We received $10 and $25 gift certificates to use in the TI Gift Shop and will receive a Youth Leadership Program Kit at the Hall of Fame Award ceremony on April 9, 2022.

The club also earned several incentives during 2021-2022 for including the DCP Pathblazers Award for earning 5 Distinguished Club Program (DCP) goals and renewing 20 members by 3/15/22 and the Golden Flame President’s Award for earning 10 DCP goals and renewing 20 members by 3/31/22. We will receive Pathways Achievement Tracker for the DCP Pathblazer Award and a trophy/plaque for the Golden Flame Award.
